PTC News Desk: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced that the country will get its first new  oil refinery in 50 years with the help of investment from India's Reliance Industries Ltd.

"I am proud to announce that America First Refining is opening the FIRST new US Oil Refinery in 50 YEARS in Brownsville, Texas," Trump said Tuesday in a post on Truth Social.

However, it was not immediately clear if Trump meant that the refinery was part of a bigger pact with India.

While describing the project as major milestone for the country's energy sector, Trump said it would mark the first new US oil refinery in 50 years.

"America is returning to REAL ENERGY DOMINANCE," Trump said. "Today I am proud to announce that America First Refining is opening the FIRST new U.S. Oil Refinery in 50 YEARS in Brownsville, Texas."

Donald Trump said a new oil refinery planned at the Port of Brownsville will help supply fuel to US markets, increase exports, and strengthen the country’s national security.

“A new refinery at the Port of Brownsville will fuel US markets, strengthen our national security and boost American energy production,” Trump said.

He also claimed the facility would become “the cleanest refinery in the world” and would create billions of dollars in economic benefits.

Part of “America First”

Trump said the project reflects his administration’s “America First” agenda and credited government policies for encouraging major investments in the US energy sector.

“It is because of our America First Agenda, streamlining permits and lowering taxes that billions of dollars in deals are coming back to our nation,” he said.

According to Trump, the refinery project will create thousands of jobs and bring long-awaited economic growth to the region.
