US-Iran conflict: Iran threatens Hormuz closure amid Trumps blockade warning, says 7 claims, all false
Qalibaf said that decisions about the strait and its rules will depend on what actually happens on the ground, not on statements made on social media.
PTC News Desk: Iran's Parliament Speaker, Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf warned US President Donald Trump of closing Strait of Hormuz after if the US continues its naval blockade, shortly after the US President said the blockade will remain in "full force".
Qalibaf said that decisions about the strait and its rules will depend on what actually happens on the ground, not on statements made on social media. His comment comes as US and Iranian officials continue to exchange messages online, often making important announcements there.
He also said that media influence and public opinion are important in this conflict, but Iran will not be affected by such tactics. Meanwhile, The Hill has reached out to the White House for a response.
Earlier, Qalibaf said the Strait of Hormuz was open for business, even though the US blockade was still in place. This came after Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the strait would stay open for commercial ships during the ceasefire.
The stock market reacted positively to these developments, rising, while oil prices dropped by 12 percent. However, Iran’s Fars News Agency questioned Araghchi’s statement, calling it surprising and saying it created confusion within the country.
At the same time, President Trump shared his version of the situation on Truth Social and spoke to several news outlets. In an interview with Bloomberg, he claimed that Iran had agreed to stop its nuclear program without limits, but Iranian officials have not confirmed this.
In another post, Trump said Iran would hand over its enriched uranium, referring to it as “nuclear dust.” He also said Israel would stop bombing Lebanon, adding, “Enough is enough.”
