JD Vance has repeatedly voiced concern over falling birth rates since launching his political career with a bid for the US Senate in Ohio in 2021. As vice president, he has continued to champion the issue, declaring in a March 2025 speech at the March for Life, “I want more babies in the United States of America.”
Vance has often been accompanied on overseas trips by his wife, Usha Vance, and their children, who are frequently seen boarding Air Force Two in pajamas for overnight journeys.
Historically, it has been extremely uncommon for individuals holding the highest offices in the United States to have children while serving. One notable exception was President Grover Cleveland, whose wife, Frances Cleveland, gave birth to their second child in 1893 during his second term in office.
