Punjab govt declares holiday in Amritsar on October 27 for Sri Guru Ramdas Ji’s Parkash Purb
PTC Web Desk: The Punjab Government has declared a holiday in Amritsar district on October 27 on the occasion of Parkash Purb (birth anniversary) of Sri Guru Ramdas Ji, the fourth Sikh Guru.
The announcement was made by the state government, which said the holiday has been granted so that residents can take part in the religious events and celebrations being organised in the holy city. Government offices, schools and colleges in the district are expected to remain closed for the day.
Sri Guru Ramdas Ji, who founded the city of Amritsar, is revered by Sikhs across the world. Every year, his birth anniversary is marked with special prayers, kirtan and langar at Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) and other gurdwaras in the city. Thousands of devotees are expected to gather at the Golden Temple complex, which is usually decorated with flowers and lights for the occasion.
Devotees also take part in processions and religious congregations, while local authorities make arrangements for crowd management, traffic regulation and security to ensure the smooth conduct of the celebrations.
