CNG, PNG prices up in Mumbai; check new rates
Mumbai, April 13: Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) hiked the prices of compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG) by Rs 5.00 per kg and Rs 4.50 per SCM respectively, in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
Now, the people have to shell out Rs 72.00 for CNG in Mumbai, while the revised rate of PNG is Rs 45.50. The revised prices are effective midnight on Tuesday (April 12).
Notably, this is the second hike in CNG, PNG prices in Mumbai in the month of April. Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), which supplies CNG and PNG to Mumbai had earlier increased the rates on April 5 by Rs 7 and Rs 5 respectively.
MGL was selling CNG at Rs 67 per kg and PNG at Rs 41.50 per SCM before the price increase.

CNG prices in India's commercial capital have jumped by Rs 12.00 per kg in the last week. The hefty price increase will have a significant impact on public transportation, which includes buses, auto-rickshaws, and taxis, all of which run on green fuel.
For PNG, the price rose by Rs 9.50 per unit in just one week. The hike in the price of piped gas would now have a significant impact on more than 17 lakh households across MMR.
"The selling price of domestically produced natural gas has been increased by 110 per cent by the Centre. The cost of regasified LNG, which is being blended to offset shortfall in availability of domestic gas for CNG, is at historically high levels. So we are constrained to increase prices," the statement issued by MGL read.
MGL stated that even after the price increase, MGL's CNG offers excellent savings of around 59% and 30% as compared to petrol and diesel at current Mumbai prices.
When compared to the current price of domestic LPG, MGL's Domestic PNG offers savings of around 22%.
