Birthday party turns fatal: Prominent 'Pandit Chole Kulche' vendor's son shot dead in Ludhiana

PTC News Desk: A 34-year-old man was shot dead in broad daylight in Ludhiana following an argument with other men during a birthday party on Wednesday night.

The deceased, Rahul Sharma, 34, was the son of popular vendor in Ludhiana identified as 'Pandit Chole Kulche'. The incident unfolded on late Wednesday night after a dispute among friends escalated into firing, leaving him dead.

According to the information, Rahul had left home in his Scorpio SUV to attend a friend’s birthday celebration. During the party, he reportedly got into an argument with some other men. The accused allegedly became angry and shot him twice, with one bullet hitting his chest and the other his back.

Rahul’s family received a call from his friends informing them that he had been shot and admitted to DMC Hospital. However, by the time the family reached the hospital, he had died.

Rahul had got married three years ago. Police reached the scene after receiving information about the incident and began an investigation. His Scorpio SUV was also found. His body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.

Rahul’s brother-in-law, Piyush Sharma, said he received a call at around 1:45 am asking him to reach DMC Hospital, claiming that Rahul was unwell. Sharma, who lives in the BRS Nagar area, took a cab to the hospital. By the time he arrived, Rahul’s body had already been moved to the mortuary.

Piyush Sharma said Joshi, the person who hosted the party, told him that a shot had been fired. He identified the person allegedly involved as Gagandeep, who runs a restaurant called Chai Sutta Bar in Model Town.

According to Sharma, around 10 people were present at the party. However, he said he could not confirm whether an argument had taken place because the family arrived at the hospital later. Ludhiana DCP (City) Alam Vijay Singh said police reached the area under the Lalton police post after receiving information about the shooting.

According to the preliminary investigation, the shooting took place following an argument. Police have not found evidence of any previous rivalry so far and suspect the incident resulted from a sudden dispute. The investigation is continuing.

The DCP said the accused fled the scene after the shooting. Police have formed four teams to track them down, including teams from the CIA and the local Sadar police station.

Police said efforts are underway to arrest the suspects soon.
