Border 2 roars at box office, overtakes Dhurandhar with massive opening weekend
PTC Web Desk: Sunny Deol’s much-anticipated war drama 'Border 2' has made a thunderous start at the box office, emerging as one of the biggest openers of the year. The film has comfortably surpassed the opening weekend figures of 'Dhurandhar', collecting an impressive Rs 129.89 crore in its first three days.
Released on January 23, 'Border 2' witnessed strong momentum right from Day 1. The film opened to Rs 32.10 crore on Friday, followed by a sharp jump on Saturday with earnings of Rs 40.59 crore. The upward trend continued on Sunday, when the film raked in a massive Rs 57.20 crore, sealing its blockbuster weekend run. In comparison, Dhurandhar had earned around Rs 103 crore during its opening weekend.
'Border 2' is the sequel to the iconic 1997 blockbuster 'Border', a film that still holds a special place in Indian cinema for its patriotic appeal. The new installment features an ensemble cast, including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty. The film is directed by Anurag Singh and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta and Nidhi Dutta.
Adding to the film’s buzz, Sunny Deol and Ahan Shetty surprised fans by making an unannounced appearance at Mumbai’s popular Gaiety Galaxy theatre on Sunday. The actors arrived during a screening of 'Border 2', instantly sending the crowd into a frenzy.
Videos from inside the theatre showed a packed auditorium erupting with cheers, whistles and thunderous applause. Sunny Deol’s entry, in particular, drew a standing ovation, with fans celebrating the veteran actor’s return to the big screen in a larger-than-life role.
