PTC News Desk: Born in Hong Kong, actress Katrina Kaif was raised by her British mother Suzanne Turquotte and her Indian father Mohammed Kaif, who hails from Kashmir. Throughout her childhood, she lived in various different countries before settling in London.

Nevertheless, the actor felt such a deep connection to India that she decided to pursue an acting career there. Katrina explained why she thought she fit in well in India in a 2009 interview that is being circulated widely online.

Barkha Dutt asked Katrina during the interview if she felt cut off from her Indian heritage as a result of her parents' divorce when she was a young girl. "You know, it's such a basic thing to say that will probably sound very stupid, but you must've seen it enough in your friends how you have very dark children who grow up to be very fair?" the actor retorted.

"I don't think so." I was a rather shy kid. You could not possibly look at me and conclude that I am a Caucasian youngster. I was always regarded as being really ethnic or foreign.

The 'Merry Christmas' star said that her lifelong travels between different countries left her without a sense of permanent residence.

Coincidentally, those were the far-east nations of France, Hong Kong, China, Japan, and China, which are primarily fair, white, Caucasian nations. That further cemented it in me.

That's possibly why, upon my arrival in India, some individuals might have become concerned that, "I had simply travelled to another nation and ended up here." Katrina continued, "But I think the reason I felt like I belonged was that, even if it sounds corny, it simply fit in some way.

Katrina was a model in Bombay when she first started working as one, and she stated in an interview with Mashable India that her goal was to become a model. This was before she made her acting debut. Madhu Sapre and Lakshmi Menon served as my role models. Those were the era's supermodels. And fact, even Malaika. At the time, she was still modeling. I held these women in high regard. And as a model, that's what I aimed to be."

Alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Jackie Shroff, and Gulshan Grover in the movie "Boom," she made her acting debut in 2003. Critics, however, disapproved of the movie. Ultimately, Katrina gained notoriety with the 2005 movie "Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya," which was followed by "Namastey London's" success.

Katrina is currently regarded as one of the most in-demand Bollywood actors. She is also married to Vicky Kaushal, an actor from Bollywood.
