While the common man is already suffering from rising petrol and diesel prices in India, Amul has increased the price of milk which will come into effect from July 1.
Amul increased the price of milk by Rs 2 per liter while the hike would come into effect from July 1. The price of Amul Shakti, Gold, and Taaza 500ml milk pouch has been increased by Re 1.
The new prices will be implemented in all the states of the country including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kolkata, Delhi-NCR. The price has been increased after a year and a half.
The hike in petrol and diesel prices in India was said to be the reason for the milk price hike.
RS Sodhi, Managing Director, GCMMF, which markets Amul brand of milk and dairy products, said that the hike in the milk price was necessary due to the rise in food inflation.
Additionally, the cost for packaging has increased by 30 to 40 percent, the transportation cost by 30 percent, and the energy cost by 30 percent. These elements led to an increase in the input cost.
