India logs 1,549 fresh Covid-19 cases, 31 deaths in last 24 hours

Covid-19 update: India has logged 1,549 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, informed the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Monday. With the newly recorded Covid-19 cases, the active caseload in the country stands at 25,106. The daily Covid-19 cases in the country remained below the 2,000 mark, while several countries across the world are witnessing a fresh Covid-19 wave.

India on Sunday had recorded 1,761 Covid cases, as per the government's update. Meanwhile, Covid-19 vaccination coverage in India has surpassed the 181.24 crore mark. According to preliminary reports as of 8 a.m. Monday, a total of 1,81,24,97,303 vaccine doses have been administered. More than 17.04 crore (17,04,30,756) balance and unutilized Covid-19 vaccine doses are still available with the States and UTs to be administered, it added. India's vaccination drive began for the general public with senior citizens. Meanwhile, 70 percent of adolescents in the 15-17 years age group, who became eligible for vaccination around two months ago, are also now fully vaccinated. Speaking about the future wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country amid the resurgence of infection in Southeast Asia and parts of Europe, coronavirus experts feel that given the high vaccination coverage and immunity due to natural infection, any future waves are unlikely to have a major impact in India.
