Dhumavati Jayanti 2024 : Dhumavati Jayanti, a significant festival in the Hindu tradition, dedicated to the worship of Goddess Dhumavati, one of the ten Mahavidyas (great wisdom goddesses) in Hinduism is celebrated across the country on Ashtami Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Jyeshtha i.e. in June 

The legend behind Dhumavati's origin involves the story of Sati, the first consort of Lord Shiva. It is believed that after Sati's self-immolation, she took the form of Dhumavati. She represents the dark side of life and is associated with the void, inauspiciousness, and all things that are considered undesirable.

Dhumavati Jayanti 2024 : Significance

Dhumavati Jayanti, celebrated on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Shukla Paksha (waxing moon phase) in the month of Jyeshtha (May-June), marks the appearance day of Goddess Dhumavati. The festival is particularly significant for devotees who seek to overcome obstacles, suffering, and hardships. Worshipping Dhumavati is believed to provide protection from negativity, ill health, and misfortunes, and to grant spiritual knowledge and strength to face life's challenges.

Dhumavati Jayanti 2024 : Rituals 
  • Begin by cleaning your home and the area where the puja will be conducted. 
  • Devotees should take an early morning bath and wear clean, preferably white clothes as white is considered pure and auspicious.
  • Set up a clean altar with an image or idol of Goddess Dhumavati. 
  • Decorate the altar with flowers, especially hibiscus, which is sacred to the goddess.
  • Use mantras to invoke the Goddess Dhumavati.
  • Provide puja goods such as flowers, incense, and lamps.
  • Recite the Dhumavati Puja Katha (story).
  • Complete the pooja by performing aarti
