Agra lawyer arrested for 'sexually assaulting' gangrape survivor; fractures his leg while trying to flee
PTC Web Desk: A lawyer from Agra has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a gangrape survivor at a city hotel. The accused, identified as Jitendra Singh, sustained a leg fracture after jumping from a neighbour’s rooftop while attempting to evade arrest, the police said.
The incident surfaced after a 24-year-old woman from Auraiya, who had come to Agra for a 2022 sexual assault case hearing, filed a complaint against the lawyer. According to the police, Jitendra Singh had been representing one of the accused in her earlier case. He allegedly called the woman under the pretext of discussing a settlement and took her to a hotel, where the assault reportedly occurred.
Police sources added that the survivor accused the lawyer of giving her alcohol during the trip before physically assaulting her inside the hotel room. Following her complaint, a case was registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Acting on the report, multiple police teams were formed to locate the accused. During the raid at his residence, Jitendra Singh allegedly tried to escape by jumping onto an adjacent terrace, leading to a fractured leg. He was subsequently apprehended and provided medical treatment before further legal proceedings began.
