Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit named next IAF Chief, will take over from AP Singh on October 31
PTC Web Desk: The Centre has chosen Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit as the next Chief of the Indian Air Force (IAF). He will take over on October 31, the day Air Chief Marshal AP Singh retires from service. Dixit is currently the Vice Chief of the IAF.
A fighter pilot for nearly four decades
Born on December 9, 1966, Ashutosh Dixit joined the IAF's fighter stream in December 1986. Before becoming Vice Chief, he served as Chief of Integrated Defence Staff, the senior tri-services post at Integrated Defence Staff headquarters. He has also commanded the IAF's Central Command.
On the flying side, he has logged more than 3,500 hours on a wide range of aircraft, including the Mirage-2000, several MiG variants, Jaguar, Hawk and Tejas. He is also an Experimental Test Pilot and a Qualified Flying Instructor.
Operations and postings
Over a career of about 40 years, he has taken part in many operations and exercises. These include Op Safed Sagar, Op Rakshak and Op Sindoor.
He has held several field and staff appointments. He commanded a squadron at Gwalior in the Western Sector and later led a premier fighter training base in the Southern Sector. The Ministry of Defence said the IAF's operational capability has improved through his work in different roles.
Education and honours
Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit studied at the National Defence Academy, the Defence Services Staff College in Bangladesh and the National Defence College. In 2026, he was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal for his distinguished service.
