Amit Shah fake video case: Police add criminal conspiracy charge to FIR

PTC News Desk: The Delhi Police have added a criminal conspiracy charge under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) to its FIR in connection with the alleged fake video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah that was circulated on social media.

The police officials have also got a three-day custody of a Congress worker in the case, according to people familiar with the matter.

The development came a day after the Delhi Police arrested Arun Reddy (37), who manages an account called 'Spirit of Congress' and claims to be an AICC national coordinator for Telangana on X, in the matter.

The investigating team added Section 120B of the IPC after Reddy's initial interrogation revealed that multiple people conspired, edited the original video of Shah, and circulated the doctored video clip on social media platforms in order to spread "misinformation and cause public disorder," according to police officers involved in the case.

"We added a criminal conspiracy section to the FIR since our investigations revealed a bigger plot in the incident. We requested Reddy's custody from the court on the grounds that his interrogation was necessary to get to the bottom of the conspiracy and identify and arrest other people involved in the crime," said a senior officer, who asked not to be named.
