Arvind Kejriwal can't... | Conditions on which Delhi CM has got interim bail in excise policy case

PTC Web Desk: In a major relief to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, who has been lodged in jail since March in Delhi excise policy case, the Supreme Court on Friday granted interim bail to him, but with a rider. The apex court has clearly stated that the interim bail has been granted to Arvind Kejriwal till June 1 and with a set of conditions that he is bound to adhere to during the duration of his bail. He will have to surrender on June 2.

The Supreme Court has directed Arvind Kejriwal to furnish bail bonds amounting to Rs 50,000, along with providing one surety of equivalent value, to the satisfaction of the Jail Superintendent. Besides, he has been barred from visiting the office of the Chief Minister and the Delhi Secretariat for the time being.

Arvind Kejriwal is also bound by the statement made on his behalf, wherein he has agreed not to sign official files unless it is deemed necessary for obtaining clearance or approval from the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. He is also restrained from making any comments regarding his involvement in the present case and is barred from interacting with any witnesses or accessing official files connected with the matter.

The Supreme Court has clearly stated that the grant of interim bail should not be construed as an expression of opinion on the merits of the case or the criminal appeal currently pending consideration before the court.

It is learnt that Arvind Kejriwal's compliance with these conditions would be closely monitored, and any violation could impact the course of the legal proceedings.
