Bengal man arrested in Bengaluru over alleged terror links, planned Afghanistan trip

PTC News Desk: Police in Bengaluru have detained a 25-year-old man from West Bengal over alleged links with a member of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and suspicious online activities.

The man, identified as Asafool Mallik, was detained from the Jigani area of Bengaluru, where he had been working as a security guard at Tata Advanced Limited since December 2025.

According to police, Mallik allegedly came under suspicion after information about his online activities was received during patrols in the Bommasandra Industrial Area. During questioning, he allegedly spoke about his anger over the alleged treatment of Muslims by the Pakistani military and Pakistan's stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Police claimed that Mallik had allegedly contacted a person named Imran Haider, believed to be associated with the TTP, through Facebook. He reportedly sought help to travel to Afghanistan and had also applied for a visa.

However, Mallik allegedly told police that he later dropped the plan because of financial problems and family responsibilities.

Police examined his mobile phone and reportedly found chats, voice calls and audio recordings linked to Haider. Investigators are now examining the material to determine the extent of Mallik's alleged connections.
