Bihar: Journalists protest in Patna after colleague's murder in Araria
Patna, August 18: The Bihar Working Journalists Union members held a protest in Patna, condemning the murder of journalist Vimal Kumar Yadav in Araria district. They urged the state government to prioritise journalists' safety across Bihar.
Vimal Kumar Yadav was reportedly shot dead by unidentified assailants at his home in Raniganj Bazaar area of Araria district. The incident prompted outrage among journalists, leading to the protest in Patna.
J.S. Gangwar, ADG, Headquarters (Bihar Police), stated that Yadav was shot by unknown individuals. The police sent the body for postmortem and deployed Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and dog squads to the scene for investigation.
It was revealed that Yadav's brother was also killed in 2019, and his testimony was yet to be heard due to ongoing trials. This family history is believed to be a possible motive for the murder, as suggested by relatives.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar called the incident unfortunate and ordered an inquiry into the matter. He expressed shock at the gruesome nature of the crime.
Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey criticized the state's law and order situation, attributing the incident to poor governance. He expressed concern about rising criminal activities in Bihar, portraying it as a state struggling with lawlessness.
