Building collapses in Delhi’s Okhla; two killed, 3 injured
Okhla Building Collapse: At least two people were killed and three got injured critically after the basement wall of an under-construction building collapsed in Delhi on Thursday. A total of 13 people were trapped under the debris and were rescued after one hour, a fire department official said.
Of them, four are critical and have been shifted to the hospital for treatment.
At 4:55 p.m., the Director of Delhi Fire Service, Atul Garg, received a call about a home collapse in Okhla Phase II. Three fire engines were called into action. Locals were gathered at the location. The cause of the collapse is not known yet.
After the wall collapsed, chaos and panic ensued at the accident site. Rajesh Deo, DCP of Delhi Police (Southeast), told the media, "Background verification of the documents of the under-construction building will be conducted. It will be determined whether or not the basement was constructed legally. The accident has claimed the lives of two people. More information will be provided shortly."
