'Less toll tax, smoother journey': Centre to roll out satellite-based toll system

PTC News Desk: The Centre will set up a satellite-based toll collection system in which the toll amount will be charged based on the distance travelled, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said on Wednesday. The money will be deducted directly from the user's bank account, he explained.

"Money will be deducted from your bank account and the amount of road you cover will be charged accordingly," Gadkari said in a statement.

"The system will help to reduce toll tax and smooth the journey," the Union Minister said, adding "Through this, time and money can be saved."

"We are now ending toll collection and will use a satellite-based system. Money will be deducted from your bank account, and you will be charged based on how much road you cover. This allows you to save both time and money. Previously, it took 9 hours to travel from Mumbai to Pune; now, it is reduced to 2 hours." Nitin Gadkari said.

The minister, however, did not specify when the new system would be implemented.
