Chandigarh traffic alert: Vehicular movement to face curbs on September 4 due to VP visit, Janmashtami events
PTC Web Desk: Chandigarh residents should plan their travel carefully on September 4 as vehicular movement across several parts of the city is expected to be affected due to the Vice President’s visit and Janmashtami celebrations.
The Chandigarh Traffic Police have issued separate advisories for both events and asked commuters to avoid the affected stretches during the specified hours. Motorists have also been advised to use alternate routes wherever possible to avoid delays.

Vehicular movement will be regulated at several key locations on September 4 during two time slots: 10.30 am to 11.30 am and 2.45 pm to 3.30 pm.
The affected routes include
Dakshin Marg: Traffic will be regulated between the Airport Light Point and New Labour Chowk (Sector 20/21–33/34).
Sarovar Path: Movement will be affected from New Labour Chowk to the Sector 7/8–18/19 roundabout.
Madhya Marg: Traffic restrictions will remain in place between the Sector 7/8–18/19 roundabout and the Sector 11/12–14/15 roundabout, also known as PGI Chowk.
Vidya Path: Vehicular movement will also be regulated from PGI Chowk via the Sector 24/25 Light Point towards UIET College in Sector 25.
Commuters travelling through these corridors during the restricted hours may face diversions or temporary traffic controls.
Janmashtami celebrations to affect traffic at two locations
Traffic arrangements will also be changed for Janmashtami celebrations. Restrictions related to the religious events will remain in effect from 12 noon on September 4 until 1 am on September 5.
Traffic near ISKCON Temple in Sector 36
At the ISKCON Temple in Sector 36, traffic on Dakshin Marg will be regulated between Kisan Bhawan Chowk (Sector 22/23–35/36) and Batra Chowk (Sector 23/24–36/37).
Restrictions around Sector 20 temples
Vehicular movement will also be affected in Sector 20 due to Janmashtami programmes at local temples. Restrictions will apply between the Sector 20/21 Light Point and Sector 20/30 Light Point.
Chandigarh Traffic Police issue parking warning
The traffic police have urged guests, invitees and government employees attending the programmes to park their vehicles only at designated parking locations.
Vehicles parked on cycle tracks, pedestrian pathways or no-parking zones may face action. The police have also warned that improperly parked vehicles could be towed away.
Commuters advised to plan their journey
With multiple events taking place across Chandigarh, commuters are advised to leave home with extra travel time and avoid the affected roads during the specified periods.
The traffic police have also asked residents to keep track of official traffic updates before starting their journey and cooperate with personnel deployed at various locations.
