Delhi Excise Policy case: Arvind Kejriwal alleges 'political conspiracy' amid ED arrest

PTC News Desk: Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi's Chief Minister, has denounced his recent arrest by the Enforcement Directorate as a 'political conspiracy.' He voiced his suspicions during his appearance at the Rouse Avenue court, coinciding with the conclusion of his custody with the probe agency.

Kejriwal's remarks underscored his steadfast belief in the people's response to the situation, suggesting that the alleged conspiracy would not go unanswered. Accompanied by AAP ministers Atishi, Gopal Rai, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and his wife Sunita Kejriwal, the Chief Minister reiterated his stance amidst the legal proceedings.

Arvind Kejriwal's arrest on March 21, followed by his subsequent remand to the Enforcement Directorate's custody until March 28, has prompted speculation about a potential extension of his custodial remand, as indicated by court sources.

Despite seeking immediate relief from the Delhi High Court, Kejriwal faced a setback as his arrest was upheld, emphasising the complexity of the legal proceedings. The Enforcement Directorate's prosecution complaint, filed in November 2021, highlighted alleged irregularities in the liquor policy, implicating AAP leaders in facilitating clandestine cartel formations through intentionally designed loopholes.

Moreover, accusations of receiving kickbacks from the "South Group" further complicated the matter, as the investigation delved deeper into the purported procedural deficiencies outlined in Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar's report to Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena in July 2022. As the legal battle ensues, Arvind Kejriwal's claims of a political vendetta add another layer of intrigue to the unfolding narrative, fueling speculation about the underlying motives behind his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate.
