Chandrayaan 3's live saga: Navigating the "20 minutes of anticipation" before lunar landing

1. As the day of lunar landing arrives, the daunting "20 minutes of anticipation" or T-20 takes center stage, offering an edge-of-the-seat climax.
2. Under the guidance of commands from Bengaluru, the Vikram lander will initiate its descent towards the lunar surface from an altitude of 25 km.
3. In a powered descent, the Vikram lander will hurtle downwards at a velocity of 1.68 km per second, roughly equivalent to a staggering 6048 km per hour—nearly tenfold the speed of an average airplane.
4. Following this, the Vikram lander will engage all its engines to decelerate, although it will remain in an almost horizontal position relative to the moon's surface. This crucial phase, known as the "rough braking phase," extends for approximately 11 minutes.
5. Subsequent maneuvers will enable the Vikram lander to achieve a vertical orientation in relation to the moon's surface, marking the commencement of the intricate "fine braking phase."
