Heatwave in India: These states to witness extreme heatwave in 2024, check list
Heatwave in India: India is set to witness a hotter-than-usual summer this year, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting that temperatures may be above normal and worst heatwave conditions are expected from April to June.
As per the weather update by IMD, the Central and western peninsular parts of the country are likely to bear the brunt of these conditions, coinciding with the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections scheduled from April 19.

Normal to below-normal temperatures are forecasted for certain areas in the Western Himalayan Region, Northeastern States, and North Odisha.
The above-normal maximum temperatures are anticipated over most regions during this period, with Central and Western India facing a higher probability
States such as Gujarat, central Maharashtra, north Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, north Chhattisgarh, and Andhra Pradesh are expected to endure the most severe impact of heatwaves.
The India Meteorological Department anticipates an increase in heatwave days across central India and adjoining areas of the northern plains and south India in April.

The number of heatwave days is expected to range from two to eight in these regions, compared to the normal one to three days.
States like Gujarat, Maharashtra, north Karnataka, Odisha, west Madhya Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh are likely to face the brunt of heatwaves in April as well.
Experts say due to the high temperature in the summer season, there is a shortage of water in the body, known as dehydration. This leads to fatigue, headache, high fever, fainting, dark coloured urine and burning in the eyes. To avoid heat stroke, experts recommended drinking of water frequently, having juicy fruits, and drinking ORS solution to prevent dehydration.
Experts added that to prevent heat stroke fast, a bath of cold or ice water has been proved to be the most effective way. The quicker one can receive cold water immersion, the less risk of death and organ damage.
