Himachal monsoon mayhem: BJP president JP Nadda to visit, assess flood situation today
New Delhi, August 20: JP Nadda, President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is scheduled to visit Himachal Pradesh today to assess the extent of damage caused by heavy rains and floods in the state. In response to the ongoing disaster, Nadda aims to gain an on-ground understanding of the situation and offer his support.
During his visit, Nadda will personally meet with the families affected by the calamity, extending his condolences and expressing the party's solidarity. Himachal Pradesh has experienced relentless rain that triggered landslides, cloudbursts, and flash floods, causing widespread destruction and prompting the state government to declare it a "natural calamity affected area."
The state government reported a substantial financial loss of Rs 8014.61 crore since June 24, underscoring the severity of the situation. Over 2,000 houses have been completely damaged, with nearly 10,000 more suffering partial damage. Additionally, 113 landslides have occurred during this year's monsoon season.
Nadda's itinerary includes visits to various affected areas. He will begin in Paonta Sahib, Sirmaur district, where he will engage with local communities in Sirmauri Tal and Kachhi Dhang villages, assessing the aftermath of the recent cloudbursts, floods, and landslides.
The BJP President will then proceed to the Summer Hill region in Shimla, where a temple was washed away due to the calamity. He will engage with local authorities to discuss ongoing rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts. In the wake of the Summer Hill incident, 16 bodies have been recovered, and search operations continue for the four missing individuals.
In Krishnanagar, Shimla, Nadda will evaluate the extent of damage to houses and infrastructure caused by the heavy rains. Engaging with the local administration, he will discuss strategies for effective relief and rescue operations.
Nadda's visit will conclude at the Bilaspur Circuit House, where he will meet with families who have suffered the loss of loved ones and property due to the unprecedented rains, floods, and landslides. Through his visit, Nadda aims to demonstrate the party's commitment to supporting the affected communities and to gain firsthand insights into the ongoing crisis.
