IndiGo flight hits stationary Air India Express plane at Kolkata airport, DGCA takes action
PTC News Desk: An IndiGo aircraft grazed the wings of Air India Express at the Kolkata airport on Wednesday, prompting strict action from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
The aviation regulator launched a probe into an incident and put the pilots of the Indigo aircraft off duty.
Air India spokesperson stated that the incident occurred as the Air India aircraft was awaiting approval to reach the runway in Kolkata.
“The wingtip of a taxiing aircraft of another airline grazed one of our aircraft, which was stationary and awaiting clearance to enter the runway at Kolkata for a scheduled operation to Chennai,” Air India said.
According to the statement, the aircraft returned to the bay following the incident, and a further investigation is underway, with the airline collaborating with the regulator and airport authorities.
"We apologise for the inconvenience caused to guests due to external circumstances,” the spokesperson further stated.
