Jammu and Kashmir: Massive avalanche hits Sonmarg; several tourists stranded
Jammu and Kashmir: As per the media reports, a massive avalanche hit Jammu and Kashmir's Sonmarg town leaving several tourists stranded near Hung.
The exact number of injured individuals and the extent of damage caused is yet to be known.

Earlier, the Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority issued a medium-danger level avalanche warning for four districts in the Kashmir division: Kupwara, Bandipora, Baramulla, and Ganderbal.

A representative from Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority also stated earlier that avalanches with a medium danger level are anticipated to occur above 2400 meters in these districts within the next 24 hours.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a current Western disturbance is expected to impact Northwest India starting today, potentially affecting the temperature forecast for the next few days.
IMD predicted that Jammu and Kashmir may experience heavy rainfall today and adjoining planes will experience light to moderate rainfall, even thunderstorm activity, even hailstorm activity.

The Local Meteorological office issued an 'orange' warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, hail, heavy rainfall, and strong winds in isolated areas of five districts – Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Chamba, and Kangra for Friday and Saturday.
