Kolkata doctor murder | Supreme Court's 5 pm deadline ends; doctors give counter-deadline to Bengal government
Kolkata doctor murder: Supreme Court's 5 pm "back to work" deadline has ended with doctors refusing to comply with the order. Not only have the protesting junior doctors of Bengal hardened their stance, but they have also issued a counter-deadline to the state government.
Protesting doctors stated that the West Bengal government must accept their demands by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, or they will hold a sit-down protest outside the health secretariat.
Hundreds of doctors are now marching to Swastha Bhavan, which is located in Salt Lake on the outskirts of the city.
The five-point demand involves the resignation of several people, beginning with city police chief Vineet Goyal. The list also includes prominent officials from the health ministry.
The doctors' actions have put them in conflict with the state government, but Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has stated that she is unwilling to take action against them for the time being and wants to resolve the problem through dialogue.
