National women panel issues summon to Nora Fatehi, Sanjay Dutt over vulgar lyrics row

PTC News Desk: The National Commission for Women has summoned actors Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt after taking suo moto cognizance over alleged obscenity and vulgarity in their recently released song ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’ from the film ‘KD: The Devil’.

The panel has directed both the actors to appear before the panel on March 24.

The action follows several complaints alleging that the song contained vulgar and sexually explicit lyrics that could hurt especially children and viewers' sentiments.

“The content prima facie appears to be sexually suggestive, objectionable, and violative of provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, IT Act, and POCSO Act,” the Commission said.

“Summons have been issued to actress Nora Fatehi, Raqueeb Alam, actor Sanjay Dutt, Venkat K Narayana (Producer, KVN Group), and Kiran Kumar (director. They have been asked to appear before the Commission on March 24,” it added.

The song has also been removed from the YouTube.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) issuing summons marks a major escalation, taking the matter into the legal and regulatory domain. The Commission is set to examine the complaints and decide whether further action is warranted under laws concerning obscenity and the depiction of women.

The controversy around the song has gained significant attention as the film KD: The Devil gears up for release.

The women’s rights body also flagged alleged obscene content in the song “Tattiri/Tatihari.” It has summoned Badshah, along with directors Mahi Sandhu and Joban Sandhu, and producer Hiten, asking them to appear before the Commission.
