G7 Summit  Key Highlights: Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his participation in the G7 Summit held in Italy's Apulia, leaving for New Delhi in the early hours of Saturday. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed his departure on X (formerly Twitter). PM Modi's engagements at the summit were marked by discussions on global issues, bilateral meetings with world leaders, and a strong emphasis on technology, climate change, and the role of the Global South.



Global Technological Advancements

At an outreach session, PM Modi underscored the necessity of democratising technology to ensure its benefits reach all societal sections. He highlighted India’s proactive stance by formulating a National Strategy on Artificial Intelligence and launching the AI Mission with the mantra, "AI for All". PM Modi emphasised that technology should help eliminate social inequalities and expand human capabilities, rather than limit them.

Climate Change Commitment

Addressing climate change, PM Modi proudly noted that India was the first country to fulfil all commitments made under the COP agreements ahead of schedule. He reiterated India's commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2070, reflecting the nation's proactive environmental strategies.

Supporting the Global South

Modi emphasised India's role in advocating for the Global South, highlighting that these countries often bear the brunt of global uncertainties and tensions. He reaffirmed India’s responsibility to bring the priorities and concerns of these nations to the global stage.

Fair and Transparent Elections

Reflecting on the recent Lok Sabha Elections, PM Modi mentioned that the electoral process in India has become fair and transparent through the extensive use of technology. His return to power for a third term, he said, symbolises the "victory of democracy globally.

Bilateral Meetings

PM Modi held several bilateral meetings with key world leaders. He met French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. These meetings focused on strengthening partnerships in defense, nuclear energy, space, education, climate action, and digital infrastructure.

Strengthening Strategic Partnerships

In discussions with President Macron, both leaders agreed to intensify strategic defense cooperation, particularly under the 'Make in India' initiative. This includes enhancing industrial cooperation in the defense sector and boosting trade and commerce.

Dialogue on Ukraine Conflict

During his meeting with President Zelenskyy, PM Modi reiterated India’s stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, advocating for a peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy. This reflects India's consistent call for peace in international conflicts.

Meeting with Pope Francis

PM Modi also had a significant interaction with Pope Francis. He invited the Pope to visit India, expressing admiration for his dedication to global service and betterment. This meeting underscores India's openness to engaging with diverse global leaders on issues of mutual interest.

Engagement with Other World Leaders

The Prime Minister's schedule included meetings with leaders from various nations, including his Canadian counterpart, Justin Trudeau. This was their first face-to-face interaction following tensions over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada.

Addressing the Outreach Session

At the G7 summit's outreach session, PM Modi engaged in discussions on Artificial Intelligence, Energy, and the Africa-Mediterranean region. These talks, hosted by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, also involved Pope Francis and leaders from 11 developing countries across Africa, South America, and the Indo-Pacific region.

Italy, as the host of the G7 Summit, focused on significant global challenges, including migration, the Indo-Pacific region, economic security, and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Italy's choice of southern Italy as the venue was a symbolic gesture to emphasise the importance of the Global South. The G7 Summit included leaders from seven major advanced economies and the European Union, alongside invited nations from the Global South to foster inclusive discussions.
