RCB cancel practice session after security threat to Virat Kohli; 4 arrested on terror suspicion

PTC Web News: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) cancelled their only practice session before the IPL 2024 Eliminator against the Rajasthan Royals due to security reasons. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are set to face Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2024 Eliminator contest.

Concerns over Virat Kohli's security prompted RCB to cancel the practice session. RCB was scheduled to hold training at the Gujarat College Ground in Ahmedabad on Tuesday before the Eliminator on Wednesday, but they were unable to stick to the schedule.

According to Anandabazaar Patrika, the franchise did not even conduct a press conference on the eve of the Eliminator match against the Royals due to security concerns, leaving many perplexed by the unexpected move.

According to the report, the Gujarat Police implied that Virat's security was the key reason for cancelling the practice session and press conference. The police reportedly arrested four persons in Ahmedabad on suspicion of terrorist activity.

After the police notified the IPL franchises, Bengaluru and Rajasthan, one acted on the call and cancelled their commitments for the day, while the other continued with their schedule.

"Virat Kohli learned about the arrests after arriving in Ahmedabad. He is a national treasure, and his safety is our top priority," police officer Vijay Singha Jwala said. "RCB did not wish to take a risk. They told us there would be no practice sessions. The Rajasthan Royals were also informed of the development, yet they continued with their practice without reservations."

High security outside RCB's hotel

The police reportedly increased security arrangements outside the RCB team hotel. Even IPL-accredited members were reportedly barred from entering the team hotel. A 'green corridor' was supposed to be built to allow the Rajasthan Royals to reach the training site. R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Riyan Parag reportedly preferred to stay at the hotel rather than attend the practice session. Skipper Sanju Samson arrived at the ground late.

Strict security measures are set to be implemented for the IPL 2024 Eliminator between RCB and RR on Wednesday.
