PTC Web Desk: At least one security personnel was martyred while eight Maoists were killed in an encounter in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district. The encounter in Abujhmad began on June 12 in the villages of Kutul, Farasbeda, and Kodtameta.

District Reserve Guards and Special Task Force from four districts — Narayanpur, Kondagaon, Kanker, and Dantewada — are conducting a joint anti-naxal operation to combat Naxals. The task force also included members of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) 53rd Corps.

"The encounters have been going on since June 12, with firing taking place at regular intervals. In one encounter, at least eight Maoists were killed, along with a jawan. Two more jawans have been injured," a police official stated.

This year, 131 Naxals were killed as the state ramped up its anti-Maoist operations. During the same period, Maoists killed 22 civilians and 10 security personnel. This represents nearly a fivefold increase over the 24 Maoists killed in 2023.
