Tamil Nadu CM oath ceremony LIVE UPDATES: Five days, four meetings with the governor, unending negotiations with potential allies and multiple outreach attempts, all it took for TVK to get an official nod to form a government in Tamil Nadu and end Dravidian rule after almost 59 years.

The Thalapathy era is all set to begin in Tamil Nadu as Vijay will be taking oath as chief minister as TVK managed to secured majority after VCK extended its unconditional support.

After winning 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly — 10 less than the majority mark — it initially looked like the TVK would easily form the government. However, things soon became difficult. After getting support from the Indian National Congress, which has five MLAs, Vijay met Governor Rajendra Arlekar on Wednesday and claimed the right to form the government. But the Governor told him that he needed the backing of more MLAs.

Actor-turned-politician Vijay on Saturday received the Governor's clearance to form the government in Tamil Nadu after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), secured the support required to cross the majority mark in the 234-member Assembly.

Vijay, along with senior TVK leaders, submitted support letters from 120 MLAs to the Governor after parties like the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Indian National Congress gave unconditional support to his bid to form a coalition government. Vijay is now set to become the first non-Dravidian Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in 59 years, although it is still unclear how many ministers will join his Cabinet.
