Congress' historic contributions undermined by BJP's twisting: Kharge slams BJP

Janjgir-Champa, August 13: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge took a direct jab at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing them of distorting Congress's achievements to serve their own interests and deceive the nation. Speaking at a public rally in Chhattisgarh's Janjgir-Champa district, Kharge highlighted that Congress's legacy is foundational to the nation's progress.

Kharge clarified that while the BJP often refers to the 1962 India-China war, they conveniently overlook the pivotal role played by Indira Gandhi in dividing Pakistan into two parts. He challenged the BJP's ability to address even simpler issues, stating, "They incessantly talk about the 1962 war, yet they conveniently forget that it was Indira Gandhi who strategically divided Pakistan into two separate entities. Presently, Bangladesh is thriving under democratic governance as a result of this significant move by Congress. Our actions and legacy have brought about changes. In contrast, you (BJP) seem unable to even capture a bird or a rat."

Addressing the crowd during the 'Bharose Ka Sammelan' event organized by the party in Janjgir-Champa, Kharge expressed that the BJP often employs distorted narratives to project themselves as achievers while underestimating Congress's remarkable contributions.

Kharge's visit to the Congress-ruled state is seen as the initiation of the party's campaign for the upcoming Chhattisgarh assembly polls scheduled later this year. During his visit, he was honored by Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel.

Further targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kharge criticized his response to the crisis in Manipur, highlighting how Modi chose to mock former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru instead of addressing the issue at hand. He questioned Modi's educational background and government school origins, suggesting that Modi should contemplate joining a drama company instead of holding a parliamentary position.

In a pointed statement, Kharge said, "Modi Ji frequently compares himself with Nehruji. He didn't even contest elections but became the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Upon becoming the Prime Minister of the country, he metaphorically bowed down to the Parliament's steps. His penchant for theatrics suggests he might be better suited for a drama company."

Kharge's remarks were made in the Janjgir-Champa district, where Congress secured a landslide victory but only managed to win two out of six seats in the 2018 assembly elections.
