PTC Web Desk: Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi was admitted to a private hospital in Mohali late Thursday night after his health suddenly deteriorated due to severe chest pain. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors confirmed that he had suffered a major heart attack.

According to hospital sources, Rastogi underwent surgery on Friday under the supervision of a senior cardiac surgeon at the private hospital in Mohali. He is currently being monitored in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and his condition is stated to be stable. Doctors have advised complete bed rest for at least two months. He is likely to be shifted to a private room within the next couple of days, depending on his recovery.

Anurag Rastogi is a 1990-batch IAS officer and has held several key positions in the Haryana government during his long administrative career. His retirement was originally scheduled for June 30, 2025. However, the state government recently extended his tenure by one year, allowing him to continue in office till June 30, 2026. The extension was approved by the Centre under service rules, following the state government’s recommendation.

Rastogi turned 60 last year and is the first IAS officer in Haryana to be appointed Chief Secretary twice. Before assuming the state’s top bureaucratic post again, he served as Financial Commissioner (Revenue) and Additional Chief Secretary (Finance). He had also briefly held charge as Chief Secretary after the retirement of T.V.S.N. Prasad in October 2024.

Meanwhile, Rastogi’s name has also surfaced in the investigation related to the suicide case of senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the matter has questioned the Chief Secretary regarding allegations mentioned in the suicide note. No official statement has been issued by Rastogi in this regard so far.
