New Delhi, August 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday lashed out at the opposition parties for their walkout during his response to the no-confidence motion on Thursday, adding that that "they chose to leave the chambers."

Addressing the BJP's Kshetriya Panchayati Raj Parishad in West Bengal through a video conference on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "Just a couple of days ago, we emerged victorious in the face of the opposition's no-confidence motion in Parliament. We also triumphed over the pessimism that they were attempting to disseminate. The reality is that the opposition was apprehensive about the voting process associated with the no-confidence motion. Their reluctance to participate in the vote was driven by their fear that it would unveil the fractures within the 'Ghamandiya' alliance. In essence, they chose to leave the House."

The no-confidence motion was defeated through a voice vote within the confines of the Lok Sabha. The Prime Minister said "opposition parties were primarily inclined towards engaging in political maneuvers related to Manipur". He added that, "Their intentions were devoid of genuine discourse; their primary motive was to exploit the situation for political gains."

Confronting the Congress regarding its "Garibi Hatao" (Eradicate Poverty) slogan, Prime Minister Modi asserted, "In actuality, their actions have yielded no substantial results in alleviating poverty or enhancing the well-being of the underprivileged citizens of our nation... The BJP-led government has undertaken comprehensive measures for the holistic advancement of the economically disadvantaged."

PM Modi further criticised the Trinamool Congress for resorting to "terror and intimidation" to coerce the opposition during the panchayat elections held last month.
