EC's crackdown in Punjab: Since the announcement of elections, different agencies working for the Punjab Election Commission have seized Rs 5.13 crore in cash from various individuals.

EC's crackdown in Punjab: Drugs, liquor, gold, Rs 311 crore worth cash seized

EC's crackdown in Punjab: Since the announcement of elections, different agencies working for the Punjab Election Commission have seized Rs 5.13 crore in cash from various individuals. According to the Election Commission of India's Election Seizure Management System (ESMS), the total amount recovered in Punjab between April 1 and April 13, 2024, is Rs. 311.8449060 crores.

The agencies recovered Rs 5.13 crore in cash, 2206988.94 litres of liquor worth Rs 14.4041880 crore, drugs worth Rs 280.8158050 crores, precious metals worth Rs 10.5262050 crores and other items worth Rs 0.9652680 crores, totalling Rs 311.8449060 crore.


The Election Commission of India has delegated responsibility for monitoring cash and precious metals movements to Income Tax, State Police, RBI, SLBC, AAI, BCAS, State Civil Aviation, Enforcement Directorate, Department of Post, and CISF. 

Similarly, State Police, State Excise, and RPF are in charge of liquor smuggling; State Police, NCB, ICG, and DRI are in charge of narcotics; CGST, SGST, State Transport Department, Customs, and State Police are in charge of freebies. 

The Assam Rifles, BSF, SSB, ITBP, CRPF, Forest Department, and State Police Force are also in charge of the border and other agencies.
