Punjab’s Guava orchard scam: ED raids residence of Punjab officials; know about high-profile people involved in scam
Guava compensation scam: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday conducted raids on the residences of officers in Chandigarh and Mohali in connection with the Guava compensation scam involving the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority.
The raids were conducted in residences of of IAS, PCS officers in Chandigarh and Mohali, allegedly linked to the case.
ED conducted searches at residence of excise commissioner IAS Varun Roojam in Chandigarh.
ED also raided the house of Ferozepur Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Dhiman in connection with the guava scam of 2016 and the premises of ED Rajesh Dhiman CA Anil Arora
The "Guava Compensation Scam" involves fraudulent activities related to the compensation provided to guava orchard owners affected by land acquisition, particularly by the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (Gmada). This scam typically entails the manipulation or falsification of documents and collusion with government officials to unlawfully obtain compensation funds meant for genuine landowners.
Between 2016 and 2020, the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (Gmada) acquired land, and during this period, there were instances of document forgery involving collusion with officials from the state's horticulture and revenue department.
Among those targeted in the recent raids are senior officials including Ferozepur DC Rajesh Dhiman, IAS officer Varun Roojam, and several high-profile leaders who allegedly received compensation payments under their wives' names.
Twenty-one individuals have been arrested in connection with the guava orchard scam, where compensation amounting to Rs 130 crore was allegedly claimed improperly for land acquired by the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) in Bakarpur village, Mohali.
