NCW issues notice to DG Punjab in Balkar Singh 'obscene video' case

PTC Web News: The National Commission for Women on Monday issued notice to DG Punjab in the case in which AAP Minister Balkar Singh allegedly insisted a 21-year-old woman remove her clothes on a video if she were to get a job. The women's rights body called the incident outrageous while quoting a social media post shared by BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga.

What's the matter?

On Monday, BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga accused Punjab AAP Minister Balkar Singh of engaging in inappropriate behaviour with a woman job seeker on video call.

Bagga, National Secretary BJYM, shared a video of the incident on his X account, alleging that a 21-year-old girl approached Balkar Singh for a job, and the latter took down her phone number, promising to call her back. The BJP leader claimed that Balkar Singh, Local Bodies Minister and Kartarpur Sahib MLA, insisted on the girl removing her clothes on video call in order for her to get a job and that he (Balkar Singh) resorted to flashing his private parts on the video call.

The shocking accusations come just five days before Punjab goes to vote in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

Bagga shared the alleged edited footage, claiming that he couldn't share the entire visuals because they were too obscene and vulgar. He also demanded that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expel Balkar Singh within 24 hours.

SAD slams CM Mann for 'shielding' AAP Minister

Taking to his social media handle X, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia said it was unfortunate that those at the helm of affairs were involved in such incidents. He also referred to a similar case of that of Lal Chand Kataruchak, whose "obscene videos" had also surfaced.

Coming down heavily on Bhagwant Mann, Bikram Singh Majithia accused Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of protecting Minister Balkar Singh due to his significant financial contributions to the government, despite evidence against him.

"Punjab is a land of gurus and saints. Can representatives involved in immoral activities truly represent the people of this sacred land? I demand that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann take immediate action against Balkar Singh, given the substantial evidence against him," said Bikram Singh Majithia.
