Punjab Police busts cross-border drug smuggling racket, seizes 3-kg heroin

Jalandhar, April 12:  The Punjab Police made a significant breakthrough in the fight against cross-border drug smuggling by arresting a member of the Jaipal Bhullar gang and seizing 3 kg of heroin in Jalandhar. DGP Gaurav Yadav shared the news on the social media platform X, revealing that the operation also led to the seizure of two pistols.

Initial investigations suggest the racket sourced the heroin from Pakistan. An FIR under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered, and the probe is underway to identify further connections to drug smuggling networks.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said the Punjab Police's was committed to dismantling drug supply chains and creating a drug-free state. Special DGP for Law and Order, Arpit Shukla, collaborated with the Border Security Force (BSF) last week to establish a robust strategy to strengthen the border defense and curb drug smuggling.

The Special DGP recommended that the BSF utilise drone technology to counter drone operations at Punjab's borders, which have become a new method of smuggling drugs. Additionally, he instructed border district SSPs to hold regular meetings with Village Level Defence Committee (VLDC) members to maintain strict surveillance on drone activity.

Earlier this year, a joint operation between the BSF and Punjab Police in January uncovered a drone with six packages of suspected heroin, weighing 6 kg, in a farming field near village Majar Jamsher Pattan Dhani in Fazilka district.
