Punjab to get relief from scorching heat; light rainfall likely in 48 hours

Punjab to get relief from scorching heat; light rainfall likely in 48 hours

Punjab Weather: The India Metrological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday that severe heatwave prevailing over North India will reduce gradually from Thursday.

The temperature in Punjab is likely to drop by 3-4 degrees Celsius, experiencing isolated light rainfall in some parts of the state from May 31.


According to IMD Chandigarh director AK Singh, “There will be relief from severe heatwave from May 31 with maximum temperature dropping by 3-4 degrees Celsius in Punjab with isolated light rainfall in some parts of the state from May 31 under the influence of western disturbances.” 

Singh also stated that some regions of the state might experience thunderstorms and lightning, lowering temperatures. "There is no red alert warning for severe heatwave until June 2 in Punjab," stated Singh.

According to the IMD, Punjab's maximum and lowest temperatures increased slightly on Wednesday. Bathinda had the highest maximum temperature in the state, at 48.5 degrees Celsius.

On Wednesday, the average maximum temperature in Punjab was 5.8 degrees Celsius higher than normal, while the minimum was 1.8 degrees higher.
