Punjab elections 2022: SAD's Bikram Singh Majithia to contest against Congress' Navjot Sidhu from Amritsar East

Amritsar, January 26: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday announced the candidature of party leader Bikram Singh Majithia from Amritsar East for the Punjab Assembly elections 2022. It will be Bikram Singh Majithia versus Congress' Navjot Singh Sidhu from Amritsar East. Notably, Bikram Singh Majithia will also be contesting from the Majitha Assembly constituency. The campaign from Amritsar East will be handled by Gurpreet Singh Randhawa. Sukhbir Singh Badal also announced the candidature of party supremo Parkash Singh Badal from Lambi for the Punjab Assembly elections 2022. Satinderjit Singh Chhajjalwaddi has been named party candidate from Jandiala constituency. Besides him, several sarpanches, block samiti members and workers joined the SAD.

Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu had won his previous Assembly elections from Amritsar East with a margin of over 42,000 votes. He is likely to face a tough battle from the Opposition Shiromani Akali Dal this polls. Sukhbir Singh Badal said the party was not scared of "false cases" being slapped against its leaders. He said several party leaders had been implicated in false cases in the past five years. The SAD chief said Parkash Singh Badal would also be campaigning for the ensuing Punjab Assembly elections. Earlier, Sukhbir Singh Badal accused the Congress party of doing politics on the issue of sacrilege. He also slammed those who attempted sacrilege and those who are doing politics on it. The SAD president alleged that the sole objective of the Congress was to tarnish the image of the Shiromani Akali Dal, the representative body of 'Panth'.
