Punjab: Harbhajan Singh to contribute his RS salary towards education of farmers' daughters
Chandigarh, April 16: Former cricketer and Aam Aadmi Party MP Harbhajan Singh on Saturday announced that he would contribute his Rajya Sabha salary to the education and welfare of the daughters of farmers. Taking to Twitter, the AAP MP said, “As a Rajya Sabha member, I want to contribute my RS salary to the daughters of farmers for their education & welfare. I've joined to contribute to the betterment of our nation and will do everything I can. Jai Hind”. Notably, Harbhajan Singh was elected unopposed as the Rajya Sabha member from Punjab. He had stated that he will promote sports as he has been entrusted a responsibility that he will fulfil sincerely. Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann announced 300 units of free power for households with effect from July 1. Providing free power to every household for up to 300 units was one of the key promises made by AAP in the run-up to the Punjab assembly elections in 2022. While making the promise, the party's national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal stated that they had reached out to people across Punjab and found that they are "very unhappy" about the high costs of electricity. Also Read | Punjab: AAP govt announces 300 units of free power for homes from July 1 Earlier this week, Bhagwant Mann, along with senior officials of the state, including Chief Secretary Anirudh Tewari, Power Secretary Dilip Kumar and CMD of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), had a meeting with Delhi Chief Minister and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal earlier to discuss the issue. Notably, the demand for power in Punjab has already touched 8,000 MW. It increases to 15,000 MW during the planting of the paddy crop.
