Russia-Ukraine war: Amid failure to capture Kiev, Putin appoints new commander

Moscow, April 10: Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed a new Army General Alexander Dvornikov, commander of Russia's Southern Military District, to lead the war in Ukraine as its military failed to capture Kiev. Dvornikov has been named theater commander of the Russian military campaign in Ukraine. 'Victory Day' which is observed on May 9 is the most significant day in Russia as it marks the anniversary of the Soviet Union's triumph over Germany in the Second World War.
