BCCI has not approached any Australian cricketer for India head coach position: Jay Shah

PTC News Desk: According to BCCI secretary Jay Shah, he did not approach any Australians to lead the Indian national team as head coach. With Rahul Dravid's tenure coming to an end with the T20 World Cup 2024, which will be contested in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA), the Indian board has put out an application for the position. The position will be open for applications until May 27 at 6:00 p.m.

It was recently claimed that the Australian captain Ricky Ponting, who has won two World Cups, was approached by the BCCI for the position. Jay Shah refuted the media allegations, stating that a "rigorous" process must be undertaken to identify the best applicant for the position.

"Neither the BCCI nor I have made a coaching offer to any former Australian cricket player. The reports that are making the rounds in some areas of the media are entirely false. Selecting the ideal coach for our national team is an exacting and comprehensive procedure. Our goal is to find people who have advanced through the ranks and have a thorough understanding of the Indian cricket system. To genuinely take Team India to the next level, our coach must possess a thorough understanding of our domestic cricket system," Jay Shah said in a statement.

High degree of professionalism is required for the role: Jay Shah

After Ravi Shastri resigned as head coach during the T20 World Cup 2021 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Dravid assumed the position. Following India's second-place performance in the ODI World Cup last year, Dravid's term came to an end, and the BCCI then decided to extend his contract.

The position of head coach of the Indian cricket team is the most prominent in international cricket. With arguably the strongest fan base in the world, Team India has the most supporters overall. This is one of the most profitable occupations in the world because of our long history and love of the game.

The position requires a high degree of professionalism because it involves developing some of the world's finest cricket players and managing a pipeline of gifted players. Serving a billion fans' dreams is an enormous honor, and the BCCI will select the best applicant who can advance Indian cricket, Shah continued.

On May 25, most Indian cricket players will go to New York for the T20 World Cup. On May 27, those competing in the IPL final will depart.
