Dipa Karmakar makes history, becomes first Indian gymnast to win gold at Asian Gymnastics Championship

PTC News Desk: On Sunday, at the Asian Senior Championships in Tashkent, top Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar created history by winning the gold medal in the women's vault competition. In the esteemed tournament, the 30-year-old athlete became the first Indian to accomplish this achievement.

She ascended to the top of the podium with an amazing demonstration of ability and accuracy.


North Korean competitors Kim Son Hyang and Jo Kyong Byol took home the silver and bronze medals, respectively. In the very tough competition, Kim Son Hyang received an average score of 13.466, while Jo Kyong Byol received an average of 12.966.

Dipa, who took home a bronze in the vault final at the 2015 Rio Olympics, had placed fourth in the same competition in 2015.

At the 2015 Asian Championships, Ashish Kumar took home a bronze medal in the individual floor exercise. Additionally, Pranati Nayak won a bronze in the vault event in both the 2019 and 2022 competitions.

Dipa is not eligible to compete in the forthcoming Olympics in Paris. Dipa was suspended for 21 months for doping, but he was allowed to resume competition last year.
