Suryakumar Yadav replaces Rohit Sharma as T20I captain, Hardik Pandya snubbed

PTC News Desk: On Tuesday, July 18, India revealed their team for the white-ball visit of Sri Lanka. The Board of Control for Cricket in India unexpectedly selected Suryakumar Yadav as the T20I skipper in lieu of Hardik Pandya, Rohit's deputy in the ICC competition.

The Indian T20I team's captain for the entire 2023 season, Hardik, was not selected to succeed Rohit Sharma. In actuality, Hardik Pandya was also passed over for the vice captaincy for the Indian Twenty20 international team.

After just 7 games as the team's captain, Suryakumar Yadav was chosen captain. Of those 7 Twenty20 Internationals, Suryakumar won 5 and amassed 300 runs. When given captaincy, the batter has consistently improved his play and has amassed two fifties and a century in those games.

India's T20I Squad vs Sri Lanka

Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, Mohd. Siraj, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Suryakumar Yadav (C), Shubman Gill (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, Riyan Parag, Rishabh Pant (WK), and Sanju Samson (WK).

Shubman Gill was appointed vice captain of the T20I team, which was an intriguing decision. In the T20I match against Sri Lanka, Riyan Parag will start in place of Abhishek Sharma, who scored a century against Zimbabwe during the five-match series. KL Rahul is still not included in the T20I squad, hence Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant have been chosen to be the series' wicketkeepers.

As many ODIs and three T20Is will be played by Team India during the series. Pallekele will host the T20I leg of the series, which begins on July 27 and ends on July 30. The One-Day Internationals (ODIs) will begin on August 2 in Colombo.
