IndiGo responds to health influencer's allegations of 'high sodium' in pre-packaged meals
PTC News Desk: IndiGo has responded to allegations made by health influencer Revant Himatsingka, also known as Food Pharmer, regarding the sodium content in pre-packaged meals served onboard their flights.
Revant Himatsingka shared a video on social media, specifically on X (formerly Twitter), where he expressed concern over the sodium levels in certain pre-packaged meals provided by IndiGo. He claimed that these meals contained significantly higher sodium content compared to popular high-sodium foods like Maggi noodles. According to Revant, IndiGo's Magic Upma has 50 per cent more sodium than Maggi, Poha has 83 per cent more, and Daal Chawal contains as much sodium as Maggi.

Highlighting the health risks associated with excessive sodium intake, Revant emphasised the potential for increased blood pressure, hypertension, heart problems, and kidney issues. He urged his followers to be cautious and to share the video to raise awareness.
In response, IndiGo issued a statement defending the quality and nutritional standards of their onboard food offerings. They clarified that all food served on their flights, whether fresh or pre-packaged, is sourced from reputable vendors and complies with regulations set by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
IndiGo emphasised that nutritional information and ingredient details are provided on all food packaging, allowing passengers to make informed choices. They also reassured that the salt content in certain pre-packaged products, prepared according to traditional Indian recipes, falls within acceptable limits.
IndiGo welcomed feedback from passengers and affirmed their commitment to continually enhance their services, aiming to deliver an affordable, punctual, and hassle-free flying experience. Revant Himatsingka, with a significant online following of 88.8k on X and 2 million on Instagram, has sparked a conversation about the nutritional aspects of airline food and the importance of transparency in ingredient labeling.
