UGC declares 24 universities as FAKE [CHECK LIST]
The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Wednesday issued a list of 24 fake universities in India which are unrecognised institutions.
Uttar Pradesh is having the maximum number of universities that are unrecognised followed by Delhi.
The UGC Secretary Rajnish Jain said that the students and the public are informed that currently, 24 unrecognised institutions are operating in contravention of the UGC Act.
These institutions have been declared as fake universities and these are not empowered to confer any degree.
8 of these fake universities are from Uttar Pradesh, Delhi has 7, and Odisha and West Bengal have two each.

Likewise, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Puducherry, and Maharashtra have one fake university each.
While issuing a warning to students, the UGC said in a notice that “A degree can be awarded, only a University established under a Central, State/Provisional Act or an institution deemed to be university”.
It further said, “Students and public at large are hereby informed that presently following 24 self-styled, unrecognized institutions are functioning in contravention of UGC Act, which have been declared as fake universities.”
