Apple CEO resigns: Apple has appointed John Ternus as its next CEO, signaling a significant leadership shift as long-time chief Tim Cook steps down after 15 years.

Ternus, who has spent 25 years at Apple and currently heads hardware engineering, will take over from September 1. Cook—credited with expanding Apple’s market value by $3.6 trillion during his tenure—will transition to the role of executive chairman. He has led the company since 2011, succeeding co-founder Steve Jobs, who resigned due to health issues before his death.

At 50, Ternus joined Apple in 2001 and has been a key figure behind the scenes in developing major products such as Macs, iPads, and AirPods. In his role overseeing hardware engineering, he played a crucial part in reviving Mac sales and refining Apple’s lineup by introducing high-end “Pro” models alongside more affordable options.

His elevation comes at a time when Apple is facing growing competition in artificial intelligence and semiconductor technologies, particularly from Nvidia, which recently surpassed it in market value, as well as rivals like Meta Platforms in areas such as augmented reality.

As CEO, Ternus will be responsible for deepening AI integration across Apple’s ecosystem, especially in the iPhone. Earlier this year, Apple teamed up with Google to bring its Gemini AI model into Siri, underscoring its push to strengthen AI capabilities.

Analysts expect Ternus to focus on launching new hardware categories, including foldable devices, smart glasses, and AI-powered wearables, as Apple aims to regain momentum in next-generation technologies.
