"This is important because Canada is a rule-of-law country with a strong and independent justice system, as well as a fundamental commitment to protecting all its citizens," Trudeau said about the arrests.

"As the RCMP stated, the investigation remains ongoing, as does a separate and distinct investigation not limited to the involvement of the three people arrested yesterday," the Canadian PM was reported as saying by CBC.

He stated that many members of Canada's Sikh community felt unsafe as a result of Nijjar's murder, adding, "Every Canadian has the fundamental right to live safely and free from discrimination and threats of violence in Canada."

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reacted to the arrest of three Indians in the murder case of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar and said that India will wait for Canadian police to share information on the arrested individuals.

The Union Minister stated he had seen the news of arrests and that the accused "apparently are Indians with some kind of gang background... we'll have to wait for the police to tell us."

"But, as I said, one of our concerns which we have been telling them is that, you know, they have allowed organised crime from India, specifically from Punjab, to operate in Canada," he added.
